A key switch for an automatic gate or shutter — also sold as a key selector switch — is a metal switch fixed on a wall or gate pillar that gives the motor an open or close command when a metal key is turned. It is a fixed control point next to the remote: whoever holds the key can operate the gate or shutter without a remote, and nobody without the key can.
Available for sliding and swing gates, roller shutters, garage doors and barriers, from Somfy, Beninca, Pujol, the Italian Key and ACM ranges, and a stainless-steel side-mounted shutter unit.
📘 How a manufacturer describes it: Somfy’s UK product page for its wired key switch (ref. 2400597) calls it a «Wired key-operated control» used «To open or close your gate, partially or fully, using a key», «Surface-mounted at the entrance to your property». The page describes that Somfy model only — the unit that fits your gate is confirmed on WhatsApp — and connecting it to the board is work for a qualified technician.
Supply only. Delivery within hours for Cairo and Giza, shipping to all governorates.

Where a key switch is used
- Automatic gates — sliding and swing gates of villas, compounds and factories, usually on the gate pillar. The gate key switch guide covers how it works on a gate board.
- Roller shutters and roll-up doors — shops, warehouses and garages. The roller shutter key switch page covers shutters with and without a control board.
- Garage doors and barriers — a keyed control point for staff, residents or security.
The three types, and what decides which one fits
| Type | What the key does | Board input it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Momentary (pulse) | Turn and release — the key springs back and sends one short command | A single step-by-step input (STEP · START · SBS) |
| Maintained, 2 positions | The key stays where you turn it | A separate OPEN input, or a hold-open function |
| Maintained, 3 positions | Open · stop · close positions | Separate OPEN and CLOSE inputs, or a tubular shutter motor with no board |
The motor brand does not decide the type — the labels on the control board do. A key switch from one brand works on a board from another brand, including CAME, BFT, Nice and FAAC boards, when the input type matches.

Key switch — FAQ
What is a key switch for an automatic gate?
A metal switch fixed on a wall or gate pillar that sends an open or close command to the gate’s control board when a metal key is turned. It gives the gate a fixed control point that only key holders can use.
Is a key switch the same as a key selector switch?
Yes, the two names are used for the same product. Selector usually points to a maintained model with fixed key positions, while key switch is the general name that also covers momentary models.
Does a key switch replace the remote?
No. It is added as a second control point on its own board input, so the remote keeps working. It is useful when remotes are lost, shared too widely or out of battery.
Which board input does a key switch use?
A momentary switch uses the single command input, labelled STEP, START or SBS depending on the board. A maintained selector uses the separate OPEN and CLOSE inputs. Both work as a dry contact next to the COM terminal.
Will the key switch work during a power cut?
No. The key switch only sends a command; the motor still needs power to move. Opening a gate without power is done with the motor’s manual release, which is a separate function.
Can a key switch be mounted outdoors?
Yes, outdoor models have a sealed housing and a cover over the key hole. Check the IP marking on the housing before mounting it on an exposed pillar.
Does the key switch have to be the same brand as the motor?
No. A key switch works on CAME, BFT, Nice, FAAC or any other board that has a dry-contact input of the matching type. The input labels decide the match, not the brand.
Can a gate key switch open the gate only partially?
Some models can: Somfy describes its wired key switch (ref. 2400597) as a control «To open or close your gate, partially or fully, using a key». Partial opening also needs a pedestrian (PED) input on the board, which is confirmed from a photo of the board terminals.
How do I get the price of a key switch?
Send a photo of your board terminals or old switch on WhatsApp 01098470908. The sales team replies with the matching model, price and availability.
