First question: is it the remote or the motor?
A remote that suddenly stops working is not always a broken remote. The quickest way to separate the two is behaviour, not tools.
- It works close to the gate but not from the car. That points to signal strength, not a dead handset. Either the battery is fading or the antenna at the motor is coiled inside the housing.
- It works sometimes, then stops for a while. Classic weak battery pattern. A CR2430 lithium cell lasts roughly two years at about ten operations a day.
- Nothing at all, from any distance, on every button. Either the cell is completely flat or the handset itself has failed.
- One button works and the other does not. The handset is fine on the working channel, so the issue sits on that second motor or its receiver.
- A brand new remote you bought elsewhere never worked once. Almost always a compatibility problem, not a fault. See the section below.
Why a universal remote will never work with Somfy
This is the most expensive mistake we see, because the remote is already bought before anyone asks the question.
Somfy RTS transmits on 433.42 MHz using Somfy rolling code, where the transmitted code changes on every press and the receiver validates it against the last one it accepted. Remotes sold as universal or as copy handsets almost always run on 433.92 MHz with a fixed code. That is a different frequency and a different security model, so a Somfy receiver never recognises them. No amount of trying changes that — the two systems were designed not to talk to each other.
| Situation | Does it work with Somfy RTS? |
|---|---|
| Original Somfy RTS handset | Yes, directly |
| Universal or copy remote on 433.92 MHz | No, and it cannot be made to |
| Somfy io system | No, different protocol entirely |
| Non-Somfy motor (ACM, Beninca, Norton, Key, BFT, FAAC) | No, each control board has its own matched remote |
If your motor is not a Somfy, this page is not your answer — send the control board photo on WhatsApp and our team identifies the remote type that belongs to it.
Somfy RTS or Somfy io? It changes the answer completely
Both are Somfy, both are wireless, and they are not interchangeable. RTS is the one-way system on 433.42 MHz and it is the one commonly installed in the Egyptian market. io is the newer two-way protocol on a different frequency. An RTS handset cannot operate an io motor, and there is no adapter between them.
If you are unsure which one you have, the motor label or the receiver housing usually says. Photograph it and send it over rather than guessing — ordering the wrong protocol is the second most common reason a replacement remote arrives and does nothing.
What we actually stock in Egypt
The model we hold is the Somfy Keytis 2 NS RTS — the original two-channel handset, manufacturer reference 1841026, on 433.42 MHz with rolling code. Two channels means one handset can operate two separate points, for example a gate and a roller shutter, provided both run on Somfy RTS.

Getting it running after delivery
Setting up a new handset depends on your motor and its control unit, and the sequence is not the same across models. Rather than publishing a generic procedure that may not match your equipment, our technical team walks you through it on WhatsApp 01098470908 after delivery — send the motor model and we guide you on what applies to your specific unit.
Supply only. Any physical work at the motor is handled by your own electrician, and we stay with you on WhatsApp until it is operating.
